The flash takes a long time to charge. I think it's either a specification or a capacitor issue.
After inserting new batteries, it seems that the basic charging of the capacitor is done after a few minutes.
After that, when you press the flash button, the screen goes blank, the red LED flashes, and then charging is complete, changing to the flash icon like in the 20th photo. It takes more than 10 seconds to recharge the capacitor, so I recommend shooting with the flash off.
Since it's old, I'm selling it as junk.
